The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission is taking action against the State chief secretary for not appearing before it regarding a complaint about discrimination faced by transgender persons. The Commission is considering penal action under section 166 A of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint seeks the implementation of The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and awareness about the differences between Hijras and other transgender persons.
